Great News on Day 7
I got up to pump and decided to call and check on Drew. I got news that brought tears of joy to my eyes....Drew took a bottle! The 1st one was at 11pm last night. At that feeding, he took 25mL!!! That's a little more than half of his 46mL feeding. This is great! The nurse then tube fed him the remaining 21mL. At Drew's 2am feeding, he took 15mL and was tube fed the rest. This too is great progress. The nurse said he has a very strong suck reflex....I told her, yes I know. :) Drew's next feeding is at 5am. His nurse is going to tube the whole feeding to give him a rest. Bottle feeding is extremely hard work for a preemie baby. Not sure if they will tube the 8am or not. Because I drop Sam off @9am, I will miss that feeding. They want me to nurse him for the next 2 feedings. I will have to ask if the nursing sessions will count towards his "bottle number." With Sam I let nursing go to the wayside because I knew bottles would get him home. The nurses here are very supportive of nursing and have encouraged me to continue. More news later today. Keep praying for us.
