Day 7...Bottle Feeding
I just fed Drew at his 2pm feeding. The nurse gave me a lot of freedom. I was a bit nervous at first, but it was like riding a bike. The memories of feeding Sam came flooding back to me. I don't have a pic of the feeding, because I didn't have a free hand. :) Maybe I can get a picture of Nick feeding him tomorrow. When you feed preemie, you tilt them on their side giving full support to their neck, head, and back. With your other hand you hold the bottle and their cheeks/mouth together. This hold helps all the milk stay in their mouth. He did very well. We did have to take a few breaks, but that is normal. Drew ended up taking 35mL for me. What a big strong boy! He had very little loss of milk out of the sides of his mouth. He took the remaining 11mL through his tube. The feeding really wore him out. He will get the next feeding completely through the tube in order to let him rest. Bottle feeding sure is a lot of hard work for a little guy. Look how exhausted Drew looks in the pic below. Poor buddy! What a big day for our little guy. It's hard to believe I went into labor this time one week ago. Drew will be 1 week old at 12:28am tonight.
