Big, Big Boy!

Sam and I just took Drew to get weighed and he weighs 6lbs 11oz. That's almost a 1 pound gain from last week's 5lb 13oz. Wow! Babies this age gain 1/2 an ounce to an ounce per day.  Go Drew Go!

We woke up late this morning and were in a wild rush to get out the door. I realized we had missed car line and I would have to walk Sam into school.  I couldn't bear the thought of exposing Drew to all those germs....so, we headed to Bartlett instead. :) I was going to go to Bartlett anyway today to get Drew weighed, so here we are. Fun morning!

3 Weeks Old

Drew is 3 weeks old. Wow, a lot has happened in the last three weeks! We are starting to notice little changes in Drew.
1. Chunkier cheeks, legs, and arms.
2. More alert eyes...not as much of the old man squinty ones.
3. Eye lashes are appearing...eye brows too.
4. Doesn't require a tight swaddle at night in order to fall asleep like he did in the NICU.
5. Maintaining body temperature...less dependent on heater in his room.
6. Hair growing...Sam says  he needs a hair cut.  :)
7. Steals our hearts with each passing moment.

Perfect Night for a Walk

We ate a delicious meal from our kind neighbors and then decided to take a walk. They saved me a trip to the store this afternoon because they also came bearing diapers. I seriously had 3 diapers left. Drew has been going through them at a very fast rate. :)

The Boys

Well, we've had Drew home for a little over a week. We are starting to settle into a little routine.  Drew eats every 2-3 hours. We are mostly nursing with an occasional bottle feed.  We're not sure how much our little buddy weighs, but he is growing for sure. He'll get weighed later this week. We are already retiring several preemie outfits....mostly for the length. Drew is tall and lean...not as chunky as baby Sam. :) Sam is really getting better and better at knowing how gentle to be with his brother.  The night feedings haven't woken big brother, whose room is just across the hall from Drew's room. Nick and I are getting used to the interrupted sleep. We've been going to bed shortly after Sam lately...then up @11 or 12, again @2 or 3, and lastly @5 or 6. Most of the time it's just me getting up, but Nick is wonderful to help with diaper changes and keeping Drew quiet until I can get to him. Most days I am able to sneak a nap in, but the days go by so quickly it isn't always possible. It feels so natural having Drew here with us. It's hard to imagine how life was before he arrived.  We are so blessed!

Sunday Guests

Aunt Melissa and her family came by to visit today. They brought 2 big brother books for Sam and lots of hugs and kisses for Drew.  It was so good to see them!

A Treat for a Big Brother

Sam has been so helpful with Drew this past week. We stopped at McDonald's for a little treat. The cone was melting so fast that we had to stop before we got home. It looks like he enjoyed his cone!

1st Trip to Nature Park

Sweet Baby Drew

Drew has been nursing off and on, but he seemed to prefer the bottle. The lactation consultant encouraged me to keep trying. With Sam, I was so focused on him gaining weigh that I didn't keep trying to nurse him for fear he would struggle too much and lose weight. Well, after much patience on my part and his, Drew finally caught onto nursing last night and he was a VERY vigorous eater. Ouch! I needed a break for the night feedings, so I pumped. We tried again this morning....he's still a strong eater, but not like last. As always, Drew is as sweet as can be. What's even sweeter is seeing Sam interact with Drew. We are so blessed!

What a Great Daddy!

Nick got up with Drew while I pumped. Our last nursing session was very "vigorous" and I needed a little break. This is the 2nd little bottom he had to wipe tonight...big brother had an incident in the bathroom late last night.What a great Daddy! 

Grandmother and Granddaddy

Grandmother and Granddaddy came over this afternoon.  Granddaddy surprised Sam by going to pick him up from school.  How kind!

Growing Boy

Drew had a great visit with the pediatrician this morning.  He weighs 5lbs 13oz...a 6oz gain from Saturday,  and he measures 19in long...a one inch gain from birth. He is in the 50th percentile for weight and the 75th percentile for height. It is crazy that he is 2 weeks old today. We are slowly increasing his feedings from 2oz to 2.5oz. He has been nursing and bottle feeding. The Medela Calma nipple is great. We are able to go back and forth between the bottle and breast with no issues.  I love that Nick and Sam can help with feedings. All in all, Drew's doctor was very impressed with him.  He was very complimentary of Nick and me as parents.  It's hard to believe that my original due date is still a month away. Wow!

Ready for a New Day

Clean diaper, full belly, burps out, wrapped all snuggly...happy baby. :) Well, it was a clean diaper...happy/stinky baby. :)

2 Boys, 1 Outfit

Drew is just about 2 weeks old in these pics and Sam is just over 2 weeks old. Sam was still in the NICU and Drew is at home when wearing this outfit. It was Sam's 1st time wearing clothes....not Drew's 1st time. Sam weighed 4lbs 8.5oz in these pics...not sure Drew's weight (at least 1 lb more). Drew has his first pediatrician visit this morning. Looking forward to see how much he weighs and what the doc thinks of our big boy.
