Baking Bread
As I write this, I am taking in deep breaths of the AMAZING smell of freshly baked bread. Making homemade bread was the coolest experience ever! I've never made bread, but I've always wanted to try. I guess it always seemed a bit intimidating. Let me tell you, if I can do this with a two year old year, anyone can. The steps are clear cut and really easy. I will admit that I was nervous about hand kneading the dough. The online recipe uses an appliance that I don't own. Hand kneading was fun and only took 10-15 minutes...grown-up play dough time! :) I was also concerned Drew would be in the way, but I found this to be a kid friendly recipe. He enjoyed dumping ingredients into the bowl. He did get a bit carried away with stirring and got a little flour on me and on the floor...very minimal. While I was kneading, he was playing in the sink washing up our measuring tools. There are a few things I will do differently the next time...like trying to get a smoother dome, using less salt and honey, and maybe trying different pans. It would be cool to make hamburger buns or rolls. The bread tasted great folks! I'm busting at the seams with pride! Even Drew was bouncing with excitement. He wanted to watch the bread rise in the oven instead of Mickey Mouse! How cute is that! Here's the link to the recipe if you're interested:
