Fancy Farm Picnic
The boys and I got a wild hair and made a last minute trip to Kentucky today. We went to the 134th Annual Fancy Farm Picnic....that's right, 100 years older than me. We saw lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins. We ate some good food and played some fun games. It was A LOT hotter than I expected. I was ready to play games all day with the boys, but it was too hot. We played a few. One of my favorite parts was seeing one of my grandmother's cousins. I didn't know her name(until she told me) but I knew we were kin. I walked right up to her and told her I was Mary Aunita's granddaughter. I don't know who enjoyed the short visit more. I could have sat there all day letting her love on me and my boys (and secretly imaging she was Grandmother Hayden). They really do look so much alike. Another favorite part of our visit was touring the renovated building that my parents, aunts, and uncles attended school. There were old pictures everywhere. I was so proud that Sam kept his hands behind his back. My uncle gave us the tour. He was impressed with my vast knowledge of our family history. He asked me a few questions that I easily answered. I think I even had some info he was not aware of. Ha! It really was a short trip. We spent more time in the car than we did at the picnic. This was the boys first picnic experience. I'm really not sure how many picnics I have attended over the past 34 years.
